Form Before Depth – The October Posture Clinic

Students enjoy the seminar-style approach to the Bikram beginner's postures

To kick off both the month of October and BYR’s 30 Day Challenge, Bikram Yoga Richmond hosted its first posture clinic on Saturday, October 1.  Led by veteran yogi, Carol Ip, the special 1.5 hour class was designed to give students a chance to break down each of the 26 postures, ask specific questions, and receive hands-on guidance through their own practice.

Starting at the very beginning with pranayama breathing, Carol offered her wealth of expertise and wisdom.  Students were encouraged to ask questions and to come up to demonstrate each posture in front of the class.

Step by step, Carol took us through the basics of the first five postures, stressing the importance of form before depth.  ”The depth will come in time,” she insists.  ”But you’ve got to have the right set up to get the benefits.”

Being a member has its benefits.  Posture clinics are FREE for BYR members on the auto-renew program or the yearly unlimited package.  Non-members are also invited to learn from our talented teachers for the price of $25 per clinic.

Stay tuned for our November posture clinic with BYR owner Dave Groves (time and date to be announced).  Don’t miss out on the chance to correct your form and to learn from our very own yoga masters.  Dave’s posture clinic will focus on the oft-feared backward bending!

We hear everytime in the dialogue,” find your correct form instead the depth. The depth will come by itself”. This dialogue got right meaning when I attended Carol’s posture clinic. She explained the right form and with those adjustments, which were so easy to make. Made my practice lot more lighter. I am getting my correct form which made my body to get right benefits. Most of all without any injuries like back and knee pain by doing posture in wrong way.
These clinics are very beneficial. We can take more advantage if every dialogue of a posture get explained in a practical manner. We try to follow the dialogue but seems like making minor changes to understand that make the posture easy and injuries free.
BYR yogi teachers are awsome, for me it will be very nice if their dedidcation towards teaching the yogi students should be recognize by giving them some kind of award. Ike Carol, Christa and many more, they make us to come and enjoy the torture chamber.

    Thanks for the comments, Rimmi!

I also found the posture clinic very helpful and I’m looking forward to Dave’s backward bending clinic this weekend. No matter how much I practice, I still get nervous with camel. It can be a frustrating posture for me!

Hope to see you there! :)
