11 / 30 – An Interview with Annie Wong

When 29-year-old Annie Wong isn’t working six days a week as a prominent Pharmacist, you can find her at BYR as she persists through the October 30 Day Challenge.

It was during the Spring of this year that Annie originally signed up for the March 30 Day Challenge.  However, not long after the Challenge began, Annie’s father succumbed to his battle with cancer.  Annie stepped out of the Challenge and spent the next several months severely stressed and without an exercise regimen.  With her 2012 summer wedding on the horizon, she knew that she had to make a lifestyle change.

“One of the reasons why I’m doing the Challenge now,” Annie explains, “is to dedicate my practice to my Dad.  I want him to know that I can finish what I started, and that I’m going to continue living my life, healthy and happy.”

Now eleven days into the challenge, Annie already feels more energized, more at peace, and prepared to embrace her life with a positive outlook.  Two immediate rewards of the Challenge have been that she’s sleeping well at night, and that her body is noticeably leaner.

When asked what the hardest part of the Challenge has been, she replies, “Definitely the first day!  I hadn’t stepped into a yoga studio since I withdrew from the March Challenge, and I was really afraid to go back.”  Assaulted with stiff muscles and unaccustomed to the heat, Annie had her work cut out for her on October 1st.  But with perseverance and a clear head, she has found each day to get a little more manageable.  She is already starting to see new depth in her strength and flexibility.

“It helps that I have a wonderful support system,” she smiles, referring to her fiance and friends.  Annie’s jam-packed work schedule, coupled with her bi-weekly bootcamp classes, makes finding time for a social life difficult. Luckily, her fiance understands the importance of this 30 day journey.  He even braved the heat and joined her on Thanksgiving Monday while Annie took her first double class.

With just over a third of the Challenge behind her, Annie looks to the weeks ahead with enthusiasm and fervor.  She plans to reward herself (and her new body!) with a wedding dress shopping extravaganza.  ”I’m really excited to see what changes are in store for my body and mind.”
